Here we go again! The UK is now in the throes of another national lockdown, and with the peak Christmas shopping season upon us. For retailers and shoppers alike, it’s going to be a testing time. And, if you’re planning on doing your Christmas shopping online this year, how can you support local businesses in Devon and Cornwall? After all, it’s not like Amazon is particularly hard up.

If you want to support business in the Westcountry and shop local, here are our best tips for Christmas shopping online.


There are some great chocolate companies in Devon and Cornwall, most of whom offer online shopping and quick delivery. We reckon anyone would be chuffed to get some of these choccies in their Christmas stockings.

Willies Cacao, based in Cullompton in Devon offer an exceptional array of top quality chocs including hampers, gift boxes and single original chocolate bars.

Moor Chocolate based in Ashburton, Devon also offer some fantastic chocolate treats delivered to your door.

Clothing and accessories

Everyone loves a pair of woolly slippers, chunky knit cardigan or a pair of socks at Christmas. And luckily there are plenty of excellent clothing and accessory companies based in Devon and Cornwall, many of whom are high street names. Try these local clothes businesses on for size.

General gifts and homewares

Not sure what to get and just want to browse some great quality gifts or items for the home? No problem. If you want to support local business and not jus go straight to Amazon, these are great options in Devon and Cornwall.

The Range have gone from a local Plymouth based chain to nationwide success story. You’ll find everything from toys for the kids, to electronics and appliances. An excellent alternative to Amazon!

Cream Cornwall are perfect if you’re looking for some pretty gifts. From Christmas decorations and candles, to arty pieces, this St Ives based company are sure to please.

The Clementine also offer some beautiful homewares and gifts for Christmas. You’ll find all sorts from fragrance and decorative items to socks and accessories. Based in Fowey, Cornwall, take a browse if you’re looking for some Christmas inspiration.

Lawsons have been a Devon fixture for many years and still offer an excellent choice of homewares and gifts online. Based in Plymouth, they’re excellent for kitchen and homewares and some clever gift ideas too…

Drinks (coffee, alcohol etc)

Christmas isn’t Christmas without some warming drinks. And in Devon and Cornwall you’ll find everything from coffee and tea to wine and artisan spirits. Who needs the supermarket?

Tarquins Gin are based in north Cornwall. They’ve got many a great flavour of gin, plus their own pastis! Ooh la la!

Camel Valley have been producing quality wines from their Bodmin vineyard for years now. Pop a bottle of their Cornish brut at Christmas lunch, or slip a bottle of Bacchus dry into your loved one’s stocking.

Voyager Coffee are just one of the many excellent coffee roasters in Devon and Cornwall. We rate them highly, so pick up a few bags of their beans or ground coffees.

Roam are one of the new breed of beer brewery’s popping up in the Westcountry. Their range of delicious craft beers is sure to please beer fans, but they only deliver within the PL1-PL9 areas.

Harbour Brewing have built up a solid reputation for excellent beers, all brewed in their Bodmin brewery. If you’re looking for an independent beer from the Westcountry, this is a great choice.
